This afternoon, a short walk between the dunes of Bray-Dunes (France) and La Panne (Belgium), you can cross the border on foot via the beach.
Opposite the restaurant La Voile Bleue, you can see a colorful fresco depicting seagulls in full flight above the beach huts, which recalls the typical atmosphere of the seaside resorts of the North Sea.
Then, we head on foot towards Belgium via the beach, you can see an old border marker dating from 1819 which marks the history between France and Belgium, a vestige of the past testifying to the links between Bray-Dunes and La Panne.
And also an information panel on the restoration of the Westhoek dunes reminds us of the importance of preserving this unique ecosystem, once nicknamed “the Sahara of La Panne”.
For dinner, I had a delicious takeaway dish of Razor Clams (with parsley sauce and a squeeze of lemon) from Restaurant Les Amarres in Bray Dunes.
